Day 2: Stone Town Tour and Prison Island Excursion

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will pick you up for a full day of exploration. The day begins with a guided tour of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its cultural blend of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences. As you walk through the narrow, winding streets, you will visit historical landmarks such as the Old Fort, the House of Wonders, the Sultan’s Palace Museum, the Anglican Cathedral built on the site of the former slave market, and the bustling Darajani Market. You will also have the chance to admire intricately carved wooden doors and browse local spice and souvenir shops.

Following the tour, enjoy a delicious lunch at one of Stone Town’s well-known local restaurants offering traditional Zanzibari cuisine. In the afternoon, take a short boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island), once used to house rebellious slaves and later as a quarantine station. Today, the island is home to giant Aldabra tortoises, some of which are over 100 years old. After learning about the island’s history and visiting the tortoise sanctuary, you can swim or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon. The evening is at your leisure to rest or enjoy the peaceful beach atmosphere at Kendwa Rocks.

Day 3: Dolphin Watching and Beach Relaxation

An early morning departure takes you to Kizimkazi, a fishing village on the southern coast of Zanzibar, known for its resident population of dolphins. After a light breakfast or packed meal from your hotel, you will embark on a boat excursion to search for bottlenose and humpback dolphins. If conditions are favorable, you may have the opportunity to swim alongside these playful creatures in their natural habitat. The cruise also offers stunning views of the coastline and the open sea.

Depending on your interests and timing, you may also opt for a short visit to the nearby Jozani Forest, home to the rare and endemic Red Colobus monkeys, before heading back to Kendwa. Lunch can be arranged at a local beach restaurant in the south or back at your hotel. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy the beach, indulge in a spa treatment, or simply relax with a book by the ocean. Sunset at Kendwa is especially magical, and the hotel occasionally offers live music or beach activities in the evening.
