Day 2: Watamu Marine Safari and Dolphin Watching

Start your day with a hearty breakfast overlooking the ocean, featuring a variety of fresh fruits, pastries, eggs to order, and locally made juices. After breakfast, embark on a marine safari through Watamu Marine Park, famous for its rich biodiversity. Your first stop will be for dolphin watching, where you’ll see playful pods of dolphins in their natural habitat. The waters here are teeming with marine life, so keep your eyes peeled for other creatures like sea turtles, manta rays, and colorful fish.

Afterward, enjoy a relaxing snorkeling session in the clear blue waters, where you’ll get up close to coral gardens filled with vibrant fish. The area’s diverse marine ecosystem is a highlight of any trip to Watamu.

Return to Medina Palms for a leisurely lunch. You’ll be treated to light and fresh coastal options such as seafood salads, grilled calamari, and a selection of tropical fruits.

Spend the afternoon at your leisure. You can take another dip in the pool, relax at the beach, or even enjoy a cocktail by the bar as you take in the views.

For dinner, enjoy an indulgent seafood buffet or a la carte menu featuring coastal favorites like lobster thermidor or Swahili biryani, accompanied by seasonal vegetables and locally sourced ingredients, all complemented by a glass of chilled wine as the evening settles in.

Day 3: Malindi Excursions and Cultural Exploration

After a satisfying breakfast, head out to explore the historical treasures of Malindi, a town rich in culture and history. Your day will begin with a visit to the Gede Ruins, an ancient Swahili town built in the 12th century. Explore the ruins, which are surrounded by lush jungle, and learn about the fascinating history of the Swahili civilization that once thrived here. The site offers plenty of opportunities for photography, as the overgrown ruins contrast beautifully with the vibrant greenery.

Next, visit the Vasco da Gama Pillar, one of the oldest monuments on the Kenyan coast. The pillar, built by the Portuguese in the 15th century, marks Vasco da Gama’s landing in Malindi. The location provides stunning panoramic views of the coastline.

A short drive later, you’ll reach the striking Mamburi Sand Dunes. These golden dunes stretch for miles, creating a serene and almost surreal landscape. Walk through the dunes, enjoying the silence and beauty of the place, and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding areas.

Your final stop for the day will be Marafa Hells Kitchen, a breathtaking landscape shaped by centuries of erosion. The colorful, twisted rock formations look especially stunning during the late afternoon as the setting sun casts hues of red and orange across the sky.

After a day of cultural exploration, enjoy lunch at a local Malindi restaurant. You’ll be treated to authentic Swahili dishes, including grilled fish, Ugali, and Sukuma (collard greens), offering a true taste of coastal Kenyan cuisine.

Return to Medina Palms in the evening for a relaxed dinner by the beach. Tonight’s menu includes grilled lobster, mango chutney, and coconut rice. The romantic ambiance, paired with delicious food, makes for a perfect conclusion to your adventurous day.
