5 Days 4 Nights Gorillas & Golden Monkeys In Rwanda

Rwanda’s capital and biggest city stretches across lush undulating hills surrounded by towering mountains, the largest of which is Mount Kigali, rising 1850 metres above sea level. Kigali is the country’s financial, commercial and cultural hub, served by an international airport and featuring a wide range of accommodation options. It also offers a collection of restaurants and points of interest, including the Kigali Genocide Centre, an atmospheric market and numerous craft shops. With its interesting architecture, busy streets, meandering boulevards, and green hillsides, Kigali is said to be one of the most attractive cities in Africa and is definitely worth a visit.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a professional guide who will offer VIP meet-and-greet assistance as you pass through immigration and customs. From the airport, you will enjoy a smooth 25-minute transfer to your accommodation in the city. Check-in at the elegant Kigali Serena Hotel, where you’ll have time to rest after your journey. In the evening, enjoy a delightful dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. You’ll spend the night at Kigali Serena Hotel, where your stay will be on a half-board basis, including dinner, bed, and breakfast.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Musanze

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, your day begins with a meaningful visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum. This site serves as a powerful tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide and offers a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s history and resilience. Following the museum visit, you will depart Kigali and embark on a scenic drive north to Musanze, the town that borders Volcanoes National Park and serves as the base for gorilla trekking adventures. Upon arrival, check in at The Bishop’s House Rwanda, a boutique hotel known for its charm and personalized service. Lunch will be served at the lodge, followed by leisure time where you can enjoy some complimentary activities or simply relax in the serene surroundings.

Dinner will be served at the lodge, where you will also spend the night on a full board basis.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Visit to Ellen DeGeneres Gorilla Fund Museum

Start the day with an early breakfast before transferring to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters. Here, you will be welcomed with a briefing about gorilla trekking protocols and safety measures. After being assigned to a specific gorilla group, you will venture into the dense rainforest in search of these incredible primates. The trek can last anywhere from two to six hours depending on the location of the gorilla family, and once found, you’ll be allowed a magical hour in their presence, observing their behavior up close in their natural environment. After this unforgettable experience, return to the lodge for lunch and some well-earned rest. In the afternoon, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a modern conservation and research center where you’ll learn more about the efforts to protect mountain gorillas.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking – Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before heading back to Volcanoes National Park for another morning adventure—this time for golden monkey trekking. These rare primates are endemic to the Virunga Mountains and are known for their playful nature and striking golden-orange coloring. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in Rwandan culture with a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. This vibrant community project showcases traditional music, dance, storytelling, and crafts, offering an authentic and engaging way to learn about Rwanda’s heritage. After the cultural experience, return to the lodge for dinner and your final night in Musanze. Your stay today is on a Full Board Plus basis, which includes drinks and lodge activities.

Day 5: Return to Kigali – Departure

Begin your last day in Rwanda with breakfast at the lodge before departing Musanze and driving back to Kigali. On arrival in the city, you will enjoy lunch at The Retreat, a luxury boutique hotel known for its sustainable design and exquisite dining. After lunch, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport in time for your departure flight (flight time to be confirmed). This marks the end of your memorable journey through Rwanda.

Cancellation Policy:
Given that bookings involve accommodations and services arranged in advance, the following cancellation charges apply:

  • Cancellations made 15–30 days before arrival will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made 7–14 days before arrival will incur a 75% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made less than 7 days before arrival or in the event of a no-show will not be eligible for a refund.

You have the option to reschedule your safari at no extra cost. However, any price adjustments resulting from revised hotel rates will be your responsibility.
