MASAI MARA RESERVE SAFARI

Masai Mara Safari

My best friend Trish and I embarked on a private safari with Mohrale Tours and Travels, choosing their tour van for a blend of comfort and affordability. We were eager to breathe new air and embrace the beauty of the wild.

The safari began with the vibrant sight of Maasai warriors, adorned in red shukas and akalas, their spears catching the sunlight. Their traditional attire and the red ochre in their hair added a striking touch to the cultural experience. Checking into our hotel was a breeze, with a welcoming and jovial staff ensuring we felt at home. Exhausted but excited, we looked forward to the adventures ahead.

Dinner was a highlight with a buffet featuring plentiful meat options and a delicious vegan selection. The dessert was divine—perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth like mine. If this was a taste of what we could expect, I could easily imagine making this place my home.

That night, the sounds of crickets, hyenas, and possibly a distant lion’s roar filled the air. Though a bit unsettling, I felt secure knowing that the hotel’s security was top-notch, and soon drifted off to sleep with the music of the wild as my lullaby.

Morning came with the promise of breakfast in the wild and a sunrise spectacle. Despite Trish’s grumbling about my early wake-up call, we donned our safari gear—cargo pants, t-shirts, boots, and hoodies, with Maasai shukas for warmth.

Our tour van, filled with eight fellow adventurers, was a blend of camaraderie and excitement. The pre-dawn sky, speckled with stars, was a beautiful sight, filling me with joy.

As the sun began to rise, painting the sky in hues of orange, blue, and purple, the breakfast spread in the wild was as enchanting as the view. We set off on our adventure, hoping to witness the Big Five. The rainy season had left the landscape lush and green, with zebras, antelopes, and gazelles grazing peacefully. A leopard’s chase showcased the raw agility of the wild.

The guide’s radio buzzed with news of a rhino sighting, but on our way, we encountered warthogs—less than glamorous but part of the experience. However, our spirits lifted when we finally saw a herd of elephants, led by a matriarch. Their sheer size, magnificent tusks, and emotional depth were awe-inspiring. I learned that elephants mourn their dead and even cry—a revelation that deepened my respect for these majestic creatures.

We continued our journey, spotting a pride of lions lounging under a bush. Their beautiful brown coats and leisurely behavior were captivating, though I hoped never to encounter a hungry lion.

As we approached our picnic site, I felt immense gratitude for the opportunity to witness such splendor. The sound of wildebeests migrating across the Mara River was a thrilling moment, heightened by the guide’s explanation of the river’s significance and the migration’s timing.

By the bonfire that evening, exhausted but content, I knew that more adventures and joys awaited us the next day. Mohrale Tours and Travels had truly exceeded our expectations, and I would gladly book with them again.
