2 days 1 night Mt Elgon National park

Mount Elgon is a beautiful and unique destination! It’s an extinct shield volcano located on the border between Uganda and Kenya, known for its stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage.

It is home to various wildlife species, such as elephants, colobus monkey, and numerous bird species.

The area also features lush forests, waterfalls, and caves, making it a popular destination for hiking, nature walks, and birdwatching.

The climate varies from tropical at lower altitudes to alpine conditions at the summit, providing diverse ecosystems and stunning landscapes.

Day 1: Explore Mt Elgon National Park

Depart Eldoret to Mt Elgon using the Kitale route, -Chorlim gate. You will get a chance to explore the lower circuit, which include;

  • Makingeny Caves; Known for its unique geological formations. They serve as a habitat for various bat species and are often visited for exploration and photography.
  • Chesurur Waterfalls; Located near the slopes of Mt. Elgon, these stunning waterfalls are a perfect spot for nature lovers as it’s an ideal place for picnics and relaxation because of its lush vegetation.
  • Kitum Caves; One of the most famous caves in Mt. Elgon, known for their size and historical significance. Elephants and other wildlife frequently visit the caves to extract minerals from the walls. The caves have a mysterious atmosphere and are popular among researchers.

•Afterwards, you’ll get a chance to do a short hike to Endebess bluff which is approximately 1.6km uphill making it suitable for breathtaking views of the surrounding lanscapes, including the expansive plains.

Hiking to Endebess Bluff will be a rewarding experience, allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Elgon and its unique ecosystems.

You’ll enjoy packed lunch en-route.

•Evening View point at Elephant Platform. You May be lucky to see the Elephants going back to their bedroom (Kitum Cave).

-The elephant platform is famous for its views and the presence of elephants that come to the salt licks. It’s a popular spot for wildlife viewing and offers a chance to see these majestic animals up close, especially during the early morning or late afternoon.

-Later proceed to Kapkuro Bandas at 6:00pm. Freshen up and relax.

-Dinner and Overnight at Kapkuro Bandas.

Day 2: Departure

After breakfast, Check out from Kapkuro Bandas and depart to Eldoret International airport to catch your Flight to Nairobi .
